Under construction

A balcony suite mock up at the Frangipani Royal Palace Hotel this morning
I visited a building site this morning and boy was it exactly what it says on the packet. With 150 labourers working night and day, the latest unveiling from the Frangipani Hotel Group, to be called the Royal Palace Hotel, is due to open its doors in the 1st week of November. I hope they make it. They have two of the 70 rooms (7 storeys) ready for inspection but getting to them was an obstacle course, as the elevator is yet to arrive. It was a veritable hive of activity. The bigger balcony suites have great views across to the Royal Palace, as the name suggests, and the hotel will boast a roof-top swimming pool and lounge when complete. But this is just one of the projects currently on the go at Frangipani. They are also constructing a new 11-storey Living Arts Hotel near the Russian Market, to be finished by December, and have just opened a new Green Garden Hotel in Siem Reap. That's in addition to their existing four properties. I also popped into their Fine Arts Hotel near the Royal University on St 178, hidden down a small alleyway. The furniture made from water hyacinth was a nice touch and unusual, emphasizing the hotel's desire to support local communities. More power to their elbow.
