The Brouwer brothers say hello to Fabio Cannavaro at FishFabio Cannavaro
arrived in town this afternoon, caused a storm at the airport, sped through the city to rest his head at the Sofitel hotel before dinner at the Fish restaurant. It all went to plan for the organizers and the real fun begins tomorrow with an early-morning press conference, followed by a day's worth of events. The cavalcade sped through the streets behind a military police escort, with Tim and myself sat in the third car of the six-car procession, as we headed to the airport. The Phnom Penh Crown Academy boys were already lined up, holding posters, banners and enlarged photos of the former Italian football captain, World Cup winner and FIFA Player of the Year, at the arrivals door. The television cameras and press photographers were soon joined by a throng of excited football fans as Fabio arrived on time, uttered a few words of welcome in Khmer, met the Academy boys, willingly signed autographs and beamed that famous smile of his. Within a couple of minutes, he was ushered into a waiting mercedes and whirled his way through the afternoon traffic to his suite at the Sofitel Phokeethra hotel. After an hour or so's rest, he was back out again, this time for an informal dinner at the Fish restaurant on Sisowath Quay with members of the Crown management team and friends. Friendliness personified, Fabio met every request for a picture or an autograph before returning to his hotel, ready for a busy day tomorrow.
