I rarely get invited to anything fancy. Aside from Soma's birthday party last Saturday. But generally speaking I'm rarely on any invitation list. Take the current Cambodia Fashion Week for example. Not a jot. Nada. Bugger all. With fashion shows every day of the week, gorgeous models aplenty, wine, women and song in abundance. And I don't get even a sniff of an invite. Okay, so my own fashion sense is pretty non-existent having never been a fashion victim in any way, but nevertheless, I have a vehicle to promote this stuff - my blog - but not one invite pops through the door. Or into my in-basket. How disappointing. That is, until five minutes ago when I get an invitation, in its own envelope no less. Those lovely people at Southeast Asia Globe magazine have taken pity on me and have asked me along to their launch party this Thursday of their brand new Discover - The Essence of Cambodia, an annual publication in large format targeting the high end traveller and promoting Cambodia to a global audience. In addition, they are celebrating the 5th birthday of the SEA Globe magazine as well. The gig will take place at Yi Sang Restaurant on the riverside and will include an appearance by my old pals The Cambodian Space Project, circus performers from Phare Ponleu Selpak and the culinary delights of Luu Meng's team. In addition, I purchased my $10 ticket today for the Dengue Fever gig at FCC on 12 November and now have to ensure that I get back from Stung Treng in time that same day. The week before the gig I'll be up in the Kratie and Stung Treng area of the Mekong River doing some travel research and will have to shape my program to make sure I get back in time. The gig is due to start at 9pm that evening at FCC on the riverfront, tickets-only folks.
