Navy in the singing spotlight at Chinese House
Chinese House was rocking with the sounds of the 60s and 70s tonight as the Cambodian Space Project
and friends came out in force to celebrate the golden years of Khmer music and the launch of the band's first vinyl single, I'm Unsatisfied. Amongst the good and the great were Hem Sovann and Svay Saw, the sister of Ros Sereysothea Ros Sobeurn and three modern singers in the shape of Srey Thy, Srey Seyma and Ouch Savy, as well as a surprise appearance from the rock band Cartoon Emo. But the biggest surprise of the night for me was when Navy, a very good friend of mine who used to sing in the Thai-Cambodian border camps in the 1980s before moving to live in Japan, took to the stage for a few songs and a demo of her dancing prowess. An eclectic night of music for sure.
