Festival of youth

The younger members of the Children of Bassac testing out some moves ahead of the festival
Groups of dancers, singers, hip-hoppers, circus performers and the like are dotted around Phnom Penh today getting ready for the start of the Cambodian Youth Arts Festival, which kicks-off tomorrow at Chaktomuk Theatre. I popped along to the theatre this afternoon to catch some of the rehearsals for Winds of Angkor but the lighting installation was taking longer than expected, so will try again early evening. However, I did spot the cute youngsters from the Children of Bassac troupe trying out their dance steps on the outdoor stage overlooking the Mekong River. They'll be performing a few folk dances throughout the festival, both on the free-to-view stage and inside the theatre, and are always great to watch. They're still planning on producing regular performances for the public beginning in November, which will be a wonderful addition to the 'what's on' calendar when it happens. In the meantime, the festival begins in earnest tomorrow night, at 6.30pm inside the theatre, whilst the outdoor stage activities begin an hour earlier. If you are in Phnom Penh, don't miss it.
Do they come any cuter than these youngsters?

Supported by a small orchestra, the girls go through their routine
