Under the Big Top

Balancing , juggling, acrobatics, highwire were all part of the Puthou! show
For me, the best experience of the recent fam trip to Battambang was my first visit to Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPS). It certainly won't be my last. Even the heavy rain didn't put a spanner in the works. The artist Srey Bandol was on hand to welcome our group to the visual arts center, where the walls were lined with paintings and drawings by the arts students, which are an integral part of life at PPS. We then sloshed our way in the rain to the big top to watch a fantastic circus-cum-theatre performance called Puthou! from seventeen young artists, depicting themes of love and resentment but with a thoroughly modern twist, for an hour. They were simply brilliant. Performances are most Thursdays and if you are in Battambang then I recommend you make a beeline for the big top. You won't regret it. We finished the evening with a very tasty meal provided by the PPS cooking crew and all in all it was a perfect first visit. I will return. You can find out a lot more about PPS at their website.
My photos will never do the show justice, so go and see for yourself
We were treated to a traditional welcome dance by these girls in classical costume
